Surfeminism . . .
is a large and wonderful topic. The term emerged as a kind of revelation, or surprise, from the give and take discussions of Institute 2014. In “Thoughts on Surfeminism,” Cori Schumacher refined and expanded the concept, and she remains its principle theorist.
In general, the term so far refers to a way of feminist thinking about surfing, its body-based knowledges, and the social conditions of surfing women’s lives. It also points to a moment of new political energies and feminist social change and connection.
